I’m thrilled to announce that I will be seeking the Toronto City Councillor By-Election for Ward 25 – Scarborough–Rouge Park. 

Our community deserves a strong, community-focused voice at City Hall. Someone who puts people first, advocates for meaningful change, and takes a stand in ensuring your tax dollars are well spent. I’m ready to be that voice, and to work tirelessly to ensure our community’s needs are heard, respected, and prioritized. 

My name is Ashan Fernando, and for over 25+ years, Scarborough–Rouge Park has been my home. I grew up right here, attending St. Brendan Catholic Elementary School and Pope John Paul II Catholic Secondary School. Today, I remain an active parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Highland Creek. Community service has always been at the heart of who I am. I was the Councillor candidate for the 2022 Municipal Toronto Election for Ward 25 Scarborough-Rouge Park and since then, I’ve continued to stay involved in our neighbourhood through community roles, including: 

• Interim Co-Chair, Port Union Community Winterfest 2023 

• Past President, West Hill–Highland Creek Lions Club (2024–2025) 

• Former Board Director, Surrey Place (2022-2025) 

• Active council member, Self-Advocacy Council Surrey Place (2022-Present) 

As a proud advocate for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities, I remain dedicated to promoting inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities for all residents. 

Professionally, I bring over 24 years of diverse experience in customer service, hospitality, office administration, telecommunications. I hold an Honors Diploma in Hotel Management from George Brown College and am currently completing my Paralegal education at George Brown College as well. 

This campaign isn’t about me — it’s about you, your family, your future, and your voice. I believe that together, we can create meaningful, lasting change in our community.
